Rob Payne reached the number one spot at Gainsborough & Morton 10K last Sunday (24 March) leading the way on a fast, flat course.
Caistor RC's Rob is equally adept at short and long distances; with victories at the Wallingford Thames 10K and half marathon distance at Nottingham Let’s Go Round Again. Third place and a PB at the SVP 100K and runner up and a win and new course record at the Dukeries 40.
He moved up five places from his 2018 6th place finish at at Gainsborough & Morton 10K to win this year’s race in 32:45. Matty Smith of Barton & District AC was second in 33:47 with Ben Harris of Retford AC third in 33:53.
A speedy run from Laura Wilkinson of Lincoln Wellington AC saw her take the women’s title in 36:06. Georgina Weston of Rotherham Harriers & AC was second in 41:14 followed by Lynne Higgins of Wolds Veteran RC in 41:21.
Over 800 runners took part in this sold out event and there was a good turnout in the Juniors race, both of which were organised by Kevin Housham of Gainsborough & Morton Striders AC.
The 10K field headed off from the village of Morton and continued along an anti-clockwise, rural route through East Stockwith and Walkerith before finishing near the Village Hall. Waiting for them at the finish was a bespoke medal showing the area’s historical and literary past and a generous goody bag.
There were opportunities to refuel with a crepe from Fleur’s Kitchen or a Krispy Kreme doughnut with profits from the latter donated to Action for Children.
