Hot weather and hot feet were the main features of the Market Harborough Carnival of Running on Saturday (11 June) with good vibes experienced by all…
This running event takes place in conjunction with the Market Harborough Carnival and there was a party atmosphere throughout. There were four races to choose from including a 1 mile fun run, 10K, half marathon and a corporate challenge relay for teams of four. All of which finished on the carnival showground, lending a fun-filled theme to the entire occasion.
Races were held on a combination of open and closed roads and in an attractive setting with plenty of support from crowds of people who lined the streets and gathered at the showground to clap and cheer. There were approximately 5,000 supporters waiting at the finish, giving tired souls, and their legs, a much-welcome boost especially after Burnmill Hill. For those that had some energy left it spurred them into a do or die sprint finish.
There were medals and T-shirts for all runners with trophies for five age group winners and cash prizes for the top three men and women in the half marathon.
Ludovic Renou of Leicester Coritanian AC won the 10K race in 34:40 followed by Matt Driver of Harborough AC in 35:50. Mark Hill was third in 35:58. Rosanna Andrews of Northampton Road Runners won the women’s race in 39:16 with Helen Barry second in 42:40. Erica Calvert of Desborough RAPID Running Club was third in 47:22.
In the half marathon, Gareth Wood of Harborough AC was first across the line in 1:17:08. Phil Martin of Bushfield Joggers was second in 1:17:52 with Michael Hughes taking third place in 1:20:21. Nicki Nealon of Huncote Harriers was first lady in 1:25:32, a good win for this F50. Cynthia Martinez came second in 1:34:25, narrowly beating Rhiannon Baxter of Wreake Runners into third place in 1:34:28.
