It’s the start of December and the countdown to Christmas has begun for runners and race organisers. There is only one race tomorrow (3 December), the No Walk in the Park 5K organised by North Derbyshire Running Club and part of a 5k series held on the first Saturday of each month. Prizes are awarded in a range of age categories based upon the fastest time from all completed races.
There is a festive theme on Sunday (4 December) starting with the Nether Heyford Santa Run. It's the fifth outing for this event with three distances to choose from – 5 miles, 1 mile or a half-mile fun run for children. There is an adult’s 5-mile relay option for pairs of runners and entrants are encouraged to fundraise for Meningitis Now. Santa suits are compulsory!
Next on the list is the Cardington Cracker Hill Race, one of several events from Telford AC and a classic in the fell running community. A tough 9-mile race with 2,600 feet of climbing that’s not for the faint hearted!
Santa is back with the Jingle Bell Jog at Kings Heath Park in Birmingham. A 2K fun run in aid of Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice that is open to adults, children and families with a festive medal and mince pie for all.
Another event hoping to raise funds for charity is the Rudolph Run, a 6K run or walk around the grounds of Tamworth Castle in Staffordshire. Runners are encouraged to wear festive fancy dress and all proceeds will be donated to St Giles Hospice.
