Runderful Christmas Time At Warwick

runners at the Christmas Cracker

Fancy dress, and a free Santa hat for the first 350 entries, were the highlights at Saturday’s (17 December) Christmas Cracker. There was a choice of two distances – 10K and 20K (12.4 miles), which equated to one lap or two laps around the villages of Moreton Morrell, Little Morrell and Ashorne. Both races started and finished at Warwickshire College with runners following an undulating route including a tough climb at the finish.

In the 10K, Oliver Matharu of Poplar RC was first across the line in 35:01 followed by Peter Soley of Spa Striders in 35:51. Ben Hawkins was third in 37:12. Rosie Marsh of Knowle and Dorridge RC won the women’s 10K in 46:05 with Shelley Aplin of Black Pear Joggers coming second in 46:19. Only one second separated her from Sarah Stallard who was third in 46:20.

In the 20K, Michael Hallas of Horwich RMI Harriers won in 1:14:22 with Jeremy Mower of Gloucester AC coming second in 1:15:44. Trevor Symonds took third place in 1:18:30. Kelsey Wiberley won the women’s 20K in 1:18:55 followed by Kate Wright of Stratford AC in 1:20:25. Sue Harrison took third place in 1:21:52.
The midpoint runner in the 10K was Claire Quantick in 57:59: Katie Winterton was the midpoint runner in the 20K in 1:46:26.
The race was organised by Raceways, a Warwickshire-based sports management company who hold running and triathlon events in the area. They are also a Community Interest Company (CIC), donating all profits to their chosen charity, Kids Run Free.
