There was satisfaction in a job well done for race organisers Tempo Events with yesterday’s Worcester Full and Half Marathon (Sunday 22 May), showing again why it is a well-liked member of their family of races.
Smaller than many similar events yet Worcester Full and Half Marathon remains popular with runners wanting to test themselves on a scenic, hilly route that starts and finishes at the Sixways Stadium, home to Worcester Warriors Rugby Club. Around 960 runners took part, many raising funds for St Richard’s Hospice, the official charity partner for the event. This charity benefits from a percentage of the entry fees and funds raised by participants via online and paper sponsorship.
Matt Harrold of Warley Woods Pacers won the full marathon in 2:42:43 followed by Vincent van Woerkom in 2:52:45. Gary Herring came third in 2:57:54. Bethan Fowler won the women’s race in 3:15:34 followed by Eluned Malone of Arena 80 AC in 3:23:06. Lisa Walbridge came third in 3:29:55.
David Bell of Cirencester AC was the winner in the half marathon, crossing the line in 1:13:16. Christian Evans of Telford Athletic Club took second place in 1:18:31 with David Hollidge of Banbury Harriers AC in third place in 1:20:53. Joanne McCandless won the women’s race in 1:23:36 and narrowly missed out on a top five placing overall. Sarah Conway of Birchfield Harriers came second in 1:31:39 with Melissa Venables of Spa Striders in third place in 1:32:34.
