Running Battle For Ramathon

Stuart Spencer Wins The Derby Ramathon In A Tight Finish

There was a duel to the finish at Sunday’s (4 June) Derby Ramathon between Toby Spencer and last year’s winner Stuart Spencer. Only one second separated the winner from the runner-up.

Toby of Coventry Godiva Harriers won the 2017 race in 1:07:54 with Stuart of Notts AC coming second in 1:07:55. Alistair Smith, also of Coventry Godiva Harriers, finished two minutes behind in 1:09:55.
Becky Rigby of Preston Harriers won the women’s race in 1:16:49, nearly six minutes ahead of Charnwood AC’s Katie Synge who finished in 1:22:23. Ellie Stevens of Birchfield Harriers was third in 1:23:12. The last runner finished in 3:21:35.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Dream Team won the Ramathon Business Team Run in 4:46:09. In second place were WEBUYCYCLE – Dreamworks Derby in 4:33:25 with Team Experian taking third place in 4:48:23.
Over 2,500 runners completed the race in hot weather conditions that proved to be testing for everyone involved. The majority were from the UK; however, the race attracted runners from overseas including mainland Europe and the USA.
Among those taking part was Lindsy James who set a new Guinness World Record in last year’s race for the fastest woman to complete a half marathon while pushing a pram. She finished in 1:26:27.
Baasit Siddiqui of Channel 4’s Gogglebox started the race at 9.30am and off they went from Derby County FC’s Pride Park Stadium. Runners continued towards the city centre before reaching Elvaston Castle Country Park where they turned and headed back on the river path to the finish at the stadium.
