Running Into The New Year

Tempo Winter Series 10K

Christmas has been and gone and many of us will be looking ahead to 2018 and the start of a new race season. While thoughts turn to diets, training plans and spring marathons, there are three races this weekend (30-31 December) to celebrate the New Year before the hard work begins.

If you have been naughty during the festive season and need to shed the extra weight here is the perfect event in which to do so. The 7 Sins Immortal is a 14-mile trail run in the superb Forest of Dean and includes 14 hills along the way. It is one of several races from Trimax Events and takes place on Saturday with a 9am start time.

Our second race on Saturday is the third in the series from Tempo Events. The Tempo 10K Winter Road Race 3 is actually 6.3 miles in distance and features several hills that will help to burn off the turkey and mince pies. The organisers have advised runners to check the website and social media for updates about the race due to the icy conditions.

See out the old and in with the new at the Gloucester New Year’s Eve 10 Mile Road Race. Organised by Beyond the Limitations, it starts at 10am from the Kingsway Sport Pavilion with runners following an out and back, mostly flat course around local villages in Quedgeley, Gloucester. There is a medal for every finisher followed by refreshments at the Race HQ.

Finally, there are parkruns on New Year’s Day for those who prefer a short, sharp blast to blow away the cobwebs. Visit the parkrun UK website for more details.

A Happy New Year from runABC Midlands.
