Running Off Some Steam

Snickerthon 11k, Half Marathon And Marathon

As Martha Reeves and the Vandellas sang...”we’re having a heatwave.” It will be hot work at this weekend’s (30 June – 1 July) races so make sure you keep cool and stay hydrated.

The fine weather continues into Saturday for the Misbourne 5K and 10K Trail Run. It is held on an undulating, multi-terrain course through the countryside and woods with the latter providing some much needed shade. Both races start at 10am from the Misbourne School, Bucks.

For those looking to get their teeth into something try the Snickerthon 11K, Half Marathon and Marathon at Chasewater Country Park in Staffordshire. One of several quirkily named races from How Hard Can It Be Events & CODRC it involves running multiple 5k laps around the country park. A Snickers bar themed medal awaits every finisher, possibly accompanied by the real thing.

For another scenic race, visit Wells-next-the-Sea on the North Norfolk coast and the Holkham 10K. This race starts at 12 noon at the 18th century Holkham Hall and consists of a one lap, undulating route on hard paths and tracks. There are two drinks station along the route, at 5k and 8k and runners can expect a carpeted finish outside the Hall and a bespoke medal.

It will be hot and humid on Sunday and the first day of July. A bottle of Spire beer will be most welcome after completing the Brampton Brewery Chesterfield Spire 10 Mile. This race takes place on tree-lined country roads and is uphill in the first three miles followed by a fast downhill stretch to the finish. There is a commemorative T-shirt and beer for every finisher.
