Seaside treats at East Coast Classic 10K

East Coast Classic 10K

300 runners liked to be beside the seaside at Sunday’s (9 September) East Coast Classic 10K in Mablethorpe with fish and chips and ice cream a few of the treats at this beachfront race.

The East Coast Classic 10K and 3K Fun Run was organised by Mablethorpe Running Club and held on a flat, traffic-free course alongside the beach. The local council had cleared a patch of sand from the route enabling everyone to have safe run and in a holiday atmosphere. They didn’t have to worry about stampeding donkeys this time compared to 2014 when a herd joined in the race.

There was a new venue for the Race HQ which was moved closer to the start and finish outside the RNLI Lifeboat Station on the promenade. Entrants set off at 10:30am along a donkey-free promenade and seafront, past Sutton-on-Sea and Sandilands before turning around and heading back on the same route to the finish.

Tom North was first across the line in 33:55. Martin Troop of Lincoln Wellington AC was second in 35:01 with Gregan Clarkson of Kingston upon Hull AC third in 35:30.

Lucy Holt of Notts AC won the women’s race in 40:14 followed by Lucy Taylor of Ripley RC in 42:01. Bobbie Lomax of Warrington Road Runners was third in 42:51.

Finishers were presented with a medal and a goody bag containing Lincolnshire free range eggs and replaced calories via free, post-race doughnuts and ice cream. There was also a special fish and chips deal for any still-hungry runner.
