It was a close-run contest between Natalie Bhangal and Mel Price as they raced for first and second place at Sunday’s (30 December) Tempo Winter Series 10K. Natalie was the eventual winner by just one second.
The third race in the Winter 10K 2018/2019 series organised by Tempo Events, the race was the perfect antidote to the post-Christmas blues and one step nearer to the prized hoody. Conditions were mild and dry and 300 runners waited in the sunshine for the start at 10.30am from Ilmington Sports & Social Club.
There are 5 races in this series which are held on the same course; however, each race alternates between a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction. They include several hills. Every runner who completes 5 races receives a Tempo Events hoody and a special memento.
Natalie Bhangal of Leamington C & AC was in the leading pack along with Mel Price of Shrewsbury AC and as the race neared the finish, Price was in a strong position to win. Bhangal was not far behind her though and closed the gap, sprinting past to cross the line in 41:45 followed by Price in 41:46. Eden Schiller of Staffordshire Moorlands AC was third in 43:25.
Bhangal’s teammate Paul Andrew won the men's race in 37:37. Dean Clarke of Massey Ferguson RC was second in 37:48 and Simon Hall third in 38:04.
There were 285 finishers including a shark and two Baywatch lifeguards.
Prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female and age category winners and a goody bag for every finisher that contained a pack of sausages (and a vegetarian alternative).
