The organisers of the Meerbrook 15K and Leek Half Marathon are providing trophies for any club who includes these races within their 2018 championships. Winning one of these is a different matter...
Clubs can award this trophy based on their own criteria, for example, the fastest male or female on the day, best performance on the day etc. This offer applies if they are looking to feature either or both races in their club championships.
The Meerbrook 15K (9.3 miles) and Leek Half Marathon are tough, hilly races in the Staffordshire Moorlands with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. They are part of the North Staffs Road Runners Association (NSRRA) programme and are ‘must do’ events for any runner wanting an uphill challenge.
Meerbrook is held on Saturday 28 July 2018 with a 10am start from the village hall. There are 2,000 places and the race is chip timed courtesy of FR Systems. Runners face a long, 2K climb up the infamous Gun Hill early on followed by more ascents and descents with a fast downhill stretch to the finish. Drinks stations at regular spots along the route and every finisher receives a technical T-shirt.
No less arduous is the Leek Half on Sunday 19 August 2018 which together with Congleton and Macclesfield has become favourites with the mountain goats in the running community. A long-established race, it starts and finishes at Brough Park in Leek with 1200ft of climbing, passing the iconic Roaches and Tittesworth Reservoir before heading back towards the park. Again, there are 2,000 places on offer and bespoke T-shirts for all finishers.
