Teams of runners are invited to turnover their legs at the Green Wheel Relay on Sunday 17 June at The Athletics Arena, Peterborough. There are seven stages for teams to complete.
This is the sixth year of this event which follows the Green Wheel cycle route around the outskirts of Peterborough. The network runs in a circular direction around the city with individual cycle paths or ‘spokes’ branching off into the city. Over 45 miles in distance and with a sustainability ethos, it was designed for cyclists but is equally suitable for runners.
There is no ‘I’ in team with this event: it is about helping and supporting each other through each of the seven stages starting from The Athletics Arena. It continues to the Embankment then Eye, Bull PH, Newborough, Etton, Ferry Meadows, Norman Cross, Stanground and back to the Embankment before finishing at the Arena. Five of the seven stages are around 7 to 8 miles (approx) in distance and the remaining two stages 4 and 5 miles (approx).
It is open to teams of at least four runners aged 16 and above although stage 2 is suitable for those aged 15 and above.
There are no marshals along the route apart from those at the changeover points, e.g. Etton where times will be recorded. However, teams will be provided with a set of instructions for each of the stages with the team manager responsible for estimating their time to complete the event. Teams will start at 15 minute intervals between 7.30am and 10.30am.
