Spring is here and the race season is well underway with a bunch of road and trail events. It’s all happening on Sunday (19 March) and for off-road fans there are three races taking place starting with the Keyworth Trail Run 15K and 30K in Nottingham. This new event is suitable for the novice and experienced runner alike with all proceeds going to Willow Brook Primary School.
Springing Into Road And Trail Action
Next up is the Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon, an annual event in an area of outstanding natural beauty in Gloucestershire. Paralympic gold medallist Andy Lewis will start this year’s race at 10am.
Over to the Welsh/Shropshire border for the Up Hill Down Dale Brynkinalt Estate 5K/10K/20K Trail Race. A multi-terrain event held in the private grounds of the Brynkinalt Estate near Chirk making it an unmissable opportunity.
A switch to road and into Shropshire for the Mercedes Benz of Shrewsbury 10K. The race is held on closed roads around this historic town and starts and finishes in the High Street. The route includes a couple of hills early on, the tree-lined Quarry Park and two major river crossings.
Into neighbouring Staffordshire for Stafford Half Marathon. This well-organised and supported race is a favourite with the local running community and ideal for anyone attempting this distance for the first time.
Finally, there is good marathon preparation in the form of the Aldi Ashby 20, organised by Ivanhoe Runners based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire. Voted as one of the best road races in the UK this year's event sold out within a couple of hours.
