Steering Through At Cattle Country

Cattle Country 10K and 5K

A stampede for the finish was on the minds of several runners at last Sunday’s (10 September) Cattle Country 5K/10K and Family Fun Runs. The head marshal ensured everything went according to plan.

Wet, muddy conditions were part of the challenge at the Cattle Country Adventure Park, with runners of all ages and abilities taking part in the 10k, 5k, 1k and 50m races. This was the second outing of this event following its successful launch in 2016 and it featured first-rate organisation, medals and a finishers' table containing a range of treats.
The marshals were singled out for praise with special mention going to Craig Wilson who volunteered to be in charge and performed to the highest standards. His dedication to duty and ‘can do’ attitude combined with the support of an enthusiastic team resulted in a safe and enjoyable event. The organisers, Aspire Running Events, thanked Craig for his sterling efforts and have invited him to be head marshal for a second time.
In the 10k, Victor Marques of Kingsway Runners was first across the line in 44:07. Michael Clevely was second in 44:32 with Andrew Cox of Cheltenham Tri Club coming third in 44:59. Niki Morgan of Chepstow Harriers was the fastest lady in 45:04 followed by Clare Sims of Wye Valley Runners in 45:56. Niki’s teammate Lisa Jeffrey completed the podium in 46:32.
In the 5k, twins Kiya and Taya Dee of Highworth RC took first and second places in 22:03 and 22:21 respectively. The female U20 duo were followed by Chris Runcie who was third in 22:58.
