Stepping Out At Broadway

Steep climbing up the tour at Broadway Marathon

Lady veterans showed that age is no barrier to success at Broadway Marathon and Half Marathon (Sunday 20 November). FV50 Alison Carr of Pershore Plum Plodders won the women’s race in Broadway Marathon in 4:21:23. Emily Field-Lucas of Spa Striders was second in 4:24:40 with FV45 Rachel Beecham coming third in 4:35:50.

Martin O’Connor of Stroud & District AC was first home in 3:34:58. Daniel Lynch of Stratford-upon-Avon AC was second in 3:45:32 with Howard Ewan of Cirencester AC third in 3:47:17.

FV45 Kate Wright of Stratford-upon-Avon AC was first lady in Broadway Half Marathon, finishing in 1:48:09. She also set a new course record, which made victory even sweeter.  Camilla Cole of Oxford Tri Club took second place in 1:55:07 with Jennifer Hitchcott coming third in 2:01:28.

Rich Sykes of Spa Striders was quickest in the half in 1:41:52 with Thomas Astley of Bracknell Forest Runners coming second in 1:43:42. Mark Elwis took third place in 1:43:57.

This event started and finished at Broadway United Football Club, Worcestershire, with runners following a single or double loop course in the beautiful Cotswolds. The route includes a steep climb up to Broadway Tower with several more hills for those on the marathon-only, figure-of-eight route.

This is one of several events hosted by Cotswold Running along with the popular Cotswold Way Century and Evesham Ultra. Entrants had to carry mandatory kit due to the location and the weather conditions – a condition of entry that did not deter runners as both races sold out beforehand.
