City of Stoke AC were a force to be reckoned with at the Staffordshire XC Championships (7 Jan) at the Aldersley Stadium, Wolverhampton. There were strong displays of running from the club in many of the age categories - Under 13 Boys to the Under 17 Men, Under 20 Women, Senior Women and Veteran Women.
Alex Brecker of City of Stoke AC was a runaway winner in the Under 20 Men, Senior Men & Veteran Men category. He powered his way around and was first across the line in 29:52. Ben Gamble of Tipton Harriers was second in 30:39 with teammate Gareth Griffiths coming third in 31:13.
There were equally impressive performances from the Holt sisters representing City of Stoke AC. Lucy Holt won the Under 20 Women category in 20:55 followed by Katie Lord of Cannock & Stafford AC in 22:40. Lord claimed the runner-up spot by only one second from her teammate Alice Burnhope, third in 22:41.
Kate Holt won the Senior Women category in 19:31, beating her sister Lucy into second place in 20:55. Tessa Clarke of host club Wolverhampton & Bilston AC was only three seconds behind, coming third in 20:58.
Other City of Stoke AC wins included Gianni Loska of City of Stoke AC in the Under 13 Boys category in 10:36: Casey Maddock in the Under 17 Men category in 19:22 and Dean Richardson in the Veteran Men category in 31:42. The club also won the Senior Women Teams event.
Tipton Harriers won the Senior Men and Veteran Men Teams categories and Staffordshire Moorlands AC won the Veteran Women Teams.
Several athletes have been selected to represent Staffordshire at the Inter-Counties Championships in March.
