Strong Steel Wins The Double At Bermuda

Gemma Steel wins twice at Bremuda Marathon weekend

Gemma Steel turned in impressive performances to win the 10K and half marathon at the Bermuda Marathon Weekend (13-15 January). The GB athlete won the elite women’s 10K on Saturday in 33:56 beating her teammate Jenny Spink (Bristol & West AC) into second place in 34:33, following a closely fought battle between the two. Another teammate Rebecca Moore (Chichester AC) came third in 35:41 making it an England clean sweep.

Gemma's male compatriots performed equally well. Scott Overall (Blackheath & Bromley Harriers AC) was second in the 10K in 30:18 with Alexander Teuten (City of Portsmouth AC) taking third place in 30:23 and a PB.
Steel (Charnwood AC) then followed her 10K win with victory in the half marathon on Sunday. She won the women’s race in 1:14:26 with Rebecca Moore taking second place in 1:18:02.
Scott Overall claimed the runner-up spot again, this time in the half marathon, finishing in 1:07:04. It was another third place finish for Alexander Teuten who came home in 1:07:55 and posted another PB.
Steel was part of a six-strong team representing England at this international event. These victories follow her first place finish at the British trials for the European Cross Country Championships two months ago, forming part of her preparations for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
