Organisers of next month's Bud's Run will be encouraged by the news that Carillion PLC has committed a team to compete in the event. The 5k, which will be held on the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus on Saturday 10 October, is the idea of one of Britain’s most highly respected coaches, Bud Baldaro, who has guided hundreds of middle-distance athletes over a 40-year career.
Since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2009, Bud has been keen to use his love of running to help fund research into this long-term condition. As with last year, a host of top sporting stars have provided support for Bud and the event, with former 1500m and mile world record holder Steve Cram, a confirmed speaker for the post-race gala dinner.
Carillion, who are also one of the 5k's main sponsors, is currently constructing the University’s new £42 million library. Carillion project manager Steve Rogers said: “We’re proud of our strong relationship with the University of Birmingham, and we’re delighted to help support this popular charity event.”
Bud said: “Whatever kind of runner you are, please come and join us for a great family day out. The course is traffic-free and loops round the main campus. There will also be a junior sprint track, barbecue, jazz band, stalls, and 1k loop for Parkinson’s sufferers.”
