This Bonfire Night weekend (5-6 Nov) sees a sparkling selection of races with 10ks and 10 milers making an impact.
There are a couple of 5k races on Saturday in Derbyshire and Nottingham. The No Walk in the Park 5K is a monthly time trial race hosted by North Derbyshire Running Club and this is the latest in the series. The other is the People’s Run 2 Remember 5K in Nottingham, part of a national series of events to raise funds for four armed forces charities.
Setting off the 10s is the Robin Hood Adventure Challenge, a 10K trail run through Sherwood Forest, Nottingham. Organised by OSB Events. Next is the Flying Fox 10, a scenic race through the rural lanes of North Staffordshire and the last in the North Staffs Road Runners Association (NSRRA) annual series.
The programme also sees the Rockingham 10: this 10K or 10-miler takes place on a motorsports speedway circuit at Corby, Northamptonshire. Runners complete two or three laps of this fast circuit with the aim of breaking the course record.
Last but not least is a new 10-mile event from the organisers of the Derby Ramathon. The Western Power Distribution Derby 10 makes its debut this Sunday, starting and finishing from the iPro Stadium, the same venue for the Ramathon. There is a race limit of 1,000 entries, a fast, flat course that goes through the grounds of Elvaston Castle Country Park and support from Derby County FC, a key partner for this event. The 10-miler aims to raise funds for official charity partner, Annabel’s Angels, providing support to patients, carers and their families living with cancer.
