Hartshill Runners have launched a free Couch to 5K course, starting on 21 August. The 10-week course starts with a walk and ends with a parkrun.
It will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6.15pm in Oakengates, Telford. Organisers Hartshill Runners are a new running group in Telford, set up in 2016 by group leader/run leader Gary Annett. Gary had worked in conjunction with Telford and Wrekin Council to encourage the local community to take up running via the first Couch to 5K (C25K) programme.
Three people graduated from the inaugural programme, with numerous C25Ks since then leading to the creation of Hartshill Runners. The group is one of several in the RunTogether initiative and has 137 registered runners and a reputation for friendliness and positivity. Their ethos is about enjoyment and supporting each other while building confidence and self-esteem, irrespective of a person’s background or ability.
At the end of the course, graduates will be able to run a 5k, with parkrun an ideal way to put this to the test. For anyone who thinks running is not for them, a Facebook video, made by Louise from Hartshill Runners, shows that this girl (and others) can, saying: “Come and join me. You do what you can do and each week you build, you build, you build until eventually, we will cross that finish line at parkrun.”
