Chris Thompson defied a brooding autumn morning to record a joyful win in yesterday's (18 October) Morrison's Great Birmingham Run. The 2010 European 10,000m silver medallist fought out a thrilling duel with Ayad Lamdassem but resisted the Spaniard's attempt to break him on the final uphill mile and eased ahead in the home straight for a decisive win in 1:03:00.
Thousands of spectators and millions of TV viewers also enjoyed a spirited performance from young Pole Dominika Napieraj who recorded a big PB for a winning time of 1:13:39 ahead of Spain's Alessandra Aguilar.
20,000 plus runners benefitted from a cool overcast morning as they took on the challenging Great Birmingham Run course. The Midlands city looked an autumnal picture as the big field made its way out to Bourneville and then back to the city centre via Edgbaston and Cannon Hill Park.
