Time For The Hard Stuff

Ashby 20

The ‘Beast from the East’ could be back this weekend (17-18 March) with the risk of snow showers for the Midlands. However, runners are a hardy lot and will be outside whatever the weatherman says, hitting the road at a good selection of races.

Why not run to the beat at the Let’s Go Round Again Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. One of several races from Time2Run Events it includes live music and a DJ to keep those legs in rhythm around a flat, 3-mile course. Jog, run or dance your way to the finish and receive a medal and goody bag as a reward.

Another road option is the ASDA Foundation City of Lincoln 10K hosted by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All. The event includes ia Mini and Junior Run n addition to the 10K and is also open to wheelchair athletes. This is the 22nd outing for this popular race which is held in the historic location of Lincoln famous for its cathedral and other notable landmarks.

The Great Northern Half Marathon and 10K takes place in Mickleover, Derby and not ‘Up North’ as first thought. Both races start opposite the Great Northern pub on quiet country roads and finish alongside the Great Northern railway. It is chip timed with feed stations at regular intervals along the route including the finish.

The ALDI Ashby 20 is another popular road race and suitable for any runner training for a spring marathon. The organisers are monitoring the Met Office forecast and will update runners via their website and social media. A decision will be made on Saturday at 10am.
