Trafford AC’s Thomas Charles took on the mighty Macclesfield Half Marathon (24 September) and emerged the winner. Mountain runner Tracy Dean was another who was up to the task.
Thomas Charles crossed the line in a time of 1:11:27, nearly five minutes ahead of second place Andrew Lamont of host club Macclesfield Harriers & AC in 1:16:48. James Scott-Buccleuch of Stockport Harriers & AC was third in 1:17:12.
Tracy Dean’s fell racing background stood her in good stead as she went on to win the women’s race in 1:27:58. Margaret Beever of Stainland Lions Running Club came second in 1:29:54 with Sharon Johnstone of Wilmslow RC third in 1:30:43.
The last runner finished in 2:51:03.
Over 900 runners completed the half marathon, 5k and fun run in ideal weather conditions. In addition to this were teams who had entered the Community Challenge events to fundraise for charity as well as competing to win.There were three events to choose from which included the Schools Challenge, Active Macc and the Ron Hill Corporate Challenge. All profits were donated to three local charities - East Cheshire Hospice, Just Drop-In and The Rossendale Trust.
The races started and finished at Macclesfield Athletics Track with runners following an undulating route around the superb Cheshire countryside. They were presented with a medal, goody bag and a sports drink bottle plus discount code courtesy of Manchester Airport.
