Track Racing Comes To Milton Keynes

The resurgence of track racing on the back of the amazing success of Highgate Harriers' Night of the 10,000m PBs continues to gather momentum and now Milton Keynes will host a 5,000m event at Stantonbury Athletics Track on 11 August.

Organisers of the MK5000 PB Special are planning on having graded races and at the moment, they are accepting entries from sub 19m male and sub 22m women. However they are aiming to open out these requirements soon and attract a wider field.

The event programme will see a series of 5000m track races held through the afternoon and evening of 11 August with capacity for up to 500 senior male and female runners of varying ability.

Races will be categorised by ability and gender and the pace will build throughout to a finale of elite level races fielded by the British Milers Club (BMC), the premier middle distance running club in the UK.

Two timing clocks will be in operation on race day at 200m and the finish, plus an official 3000m time will be provided in addition to the 5000m time.

Organisers hope to create a fun dimension to the event and there will be a small street food festival - hosted by EAT Street MK - with a range of food and drink to cater for both athletes and spectators.

Lilli Peters of the organising team told runABC South: "We would love to see as many people there as possible aiming for a personal best and supporting each other to reach their goals on the day."
