Triple 10K Delight

Ellesmere 10K Runners

The runner’s perennial favourite, the 10K is the focus of this Bank Holiday weekend (25-26 August) preview. Run from one country to another via the Severn Bridge, tackle multi-terrain in Shropshire or stay on the road in Warwickshire.

If you are looking for something new and different try the Severn Bridge 10K and Half Marathon. Both races start from Chepstow (Wales) side of the bridge, on the closed M48 motorway and head towards Aust (England): the 10K is held entirely on the bridge whereas the half marathon continues past Aust and along country lanes around Elberton, Little-upon-Severn and Kingston before returning over the bridge.

The next 10K is described as having PB-potential for any runner prepared to give it a go. The Ellesmere 10K is a scenic race held on a mixture of road and hard trails with only a few minor undulations apart from the hump back canal bridge. Runners pass The Mere and the Llangollen Canal with attractive views across both these features before finishing at Lakelands School in Ellesmere. There is a Fun Run at 10.45am followed by the 10K at 11am.

We finish in Warwickshire and the fifth BADGERS Atherstone 10K. This race takes in the pleasant market town of Atherstone and the surrounding countryside including the private Merevale Estate. The route is undulating although there is a fast downhill finish in the historic Market Square where a bespoke medal, T-shirt and goody bag awaits every finisher. There is also the Garner Canning Corporate Shield for the fastest team and ideal for fostering esprit de corps within a business. Expect this to be a hard fought contest.
