This weekend’s (25-26 February) early season races on road and trail provide a good test of whether your winter training is working.
It’s time for trail on Saturday with the Belvoir Challenge 15/26 Mile event that is open to walkers as well as runners. Both routes include trails, footpaths, byways and minor roads through the picturesque Vale of Belvoir and through the Belvoir Estate.
The Belvoir Challenge is organised by the Friends of Harby Primary School to raise funds for its extra-curricular activities to benefit the children and their families. Runners and walkers start at 9am from Harby Village Hall, Leicestershire and follow a waymarked route complete with well-stocked checkpoints every five miles.
Leicestershire is also home to our next off-road event, the Avalanche Run: Chase The Yeti in Market Harborough. This extreme mud run includes man-made and natural obstacles with a choice of 5K/10K or 20K distance.
Into Sunday and on the road with three events, the Bourton 10K, the Draycote Water 10K and the Stilton 7. The Bourton 10K is a fast and flat two-lap race around the village of Bourton-on-the-Water in The Cotswolds. The race starts at 10.30am.
Over to Rugby for the Draycote Water February 10K, held on a flat stretch of road around the reservoir and ideal for a PB. It is part of the popular Draycote Water Events from The Race Organiser and starts at 9.45am.
Back to Leicestershire for the Stilton 7, a two-lap race with a few hills that starts at 10.30am from Holwell Sports Club, Melton Mowbray. This race is only open to clubs who are members of the LRRL Winter League.
