VIP Package For Reading Extrovert

Reading Half marathon Start 2016Race organiser, Sweatshop, is on the hunt for another bizarre record attempt in the 34th Vitality Reading Half Marathon, which will take place on 19 March, 2017.  This year’s event saw Scott Forbes run the race in a three piece suit in a time of 1:18:13 to break the Guinness World Record for the 'Fastest Half Marathon in a Suit.’

Sweatshop is offering a free VIP upgrade for one lucky entrant who can come up with an original, genuine theme to make the 13.1 mile journey that little bit more of a challenge. Suggestions are endless and possibilities include running whilst hula-hooping, playing a musical instrument, juggling (but no knives!) or wearing any manner of costume.

The first Reading Half Marathon in 1983 was an instant success with 5,000 runners and there were 11,000 participants in the recent edition won by Robert Mbithi (Run Fast, 1:03:57) and Jenny Nesbitt (Worcester, 1:12:54). The leading GB man was Scott Overall (Blackheath, 1:05:13) after a battle to the line with Chris Thompson (Aldershot, 1:05:14) and Paul Martelletti (Run Fast, 1:05:15).

The course starts in stunning Green Park, passes through a packed town centre and the grounds of the University campus before a spectacular finish in front of cheering crowds inside the 25,000-seat Madejski Stadium, home of Reading FC. The race is suitable for all standards from beginner to elite and there is every chance of a personal best time for the improvers.

Judith Manson, race director, comments: “It’s fantastic to say Reading Half Marathon is a record breaking route and we’d like to continue this fabulous feat in 2017. Being one of the UK’s fastest and flattest routes, it really is the perfect event to attempt a new challenge!”
