David Webb got full marks with a win at Sunday’s (27 August) hot and humid Ellesmere 10K. The Telford AC runner crossed the finish line in 31:50, adding to his tally of wins which includes Market Drayton 10K, and Oswestry, Shrewsbury and the Shropshire Eastridge Trail Half Marathons.
Over 700 runners set off from Lakelands School in Ellesmere and followed a multi-terrain route through the attractive market town.
Matthew Bickerstaff of Heanor RC followed Webb in 33:04, with his second-place finish coming only a fortnight after taking second at the Burton 10K. Another Telford AC runner, Jon Bowie, was hot on the pair's heals to take third in 33:13.
In the women’s race, Sara Willhoit of Shrewsbury AC was first home in 38:32, closely followed by Clare Thurgood of Orion Harriers in 38:50 with Rebecca Harrison of Cheadle RC completing the podium in 40:09.
Kathy Ling of Wrekin Road Runners put on another gritty performance to complete the race in 1:43:35. The 73-year-old shows no sign of slowing down or stopping as she continues to race in the UK and around Europe, setting new goals each time she does.
Telford AC had a successful event with four runners finishing in the top 10. U17 Jack Pickett of Wolves & Bilston AC was the fastest junior in 36:01.
