Places will still be available on race day for the Running4Women 10K which takes place as part of the Windsor Running Festival this weekend. Thousands of runners are expected for Saturday’s 10k and Sunday’s half marathon race in the historic and picturesque Berkshire town.
For the 10k, places will be available until 11am on race day from the race village in Windsor Great Park, the event hub for both days. The venue offers a range of entertainment and catering options for the whole family, plus great facilities for the runners.
There is also free onsite parking for runners and supporters near the race village. The sold-out Windsor Half Marathon will be taking place for the 32nd time and is one of the most iconic and longest established races in the UK. With the start and finish on The Long Walk, stunning views of Windsor Castle and the 13.1 miles run on traffic free roads around Windsor Great Park, the Windsor Half Marathon is recognised as one of the most prestigious events in the running calendar.
Last year’s winner Kojo Kyereme of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers will be on the start line to defend his title, and Samantha Amend is a strong contender for the women’s title with an anticipated sub 80 minutes finish time. Amend is also currently leading the runbritain Grand Prix 2014 rankings.
Race director Peter Hier commented: “The Windsor Running Festival is nearly upon us, and we are looking forward to welcoming thousands of runners to Windsor Great Park this weekend. There will be free onsite parking for runners and spectators, and it would be great to see lots of supporters cheering on the runners and lining The Long Walk, which sees the start and finish of both events.
“Official charities of the Windsor Half Marathon include Scope as gold charity partner, Clic Sargent and Cancer Research UK as silver charity partners, plus Alzheimer’s Society, Christian Solidarity Worldwide, CRY, BESBWA (Berkshire East and South Bucks Women Aid), Rowland Hill Fund, Childlife, Momentum, The Musical Brain, Terrence Higgins Trust, I CAN, St James’s Place Foundation, Daisy’s Dream, Medical Aid and the Founding Charity Crash.
Nike is the gold sponsor of Windsor Half Marathon, with other sponsors including Knauf, Imtech, Aecom, Osborne, Saka, Buildbase, Mars in the Community and Macdonald Windsor Hotel. For full event details, see the event website.
