Last Sunday (14 February) saw a bumper turnout at the Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon where Salford Harrier Joe Bailey (1:08:24) stormed home ahead of clubmate Nathan Kilcourse (1:09:52) and Heanor RC's Joe Rainsford (1:10:16) to claim first place.
Hannah Jarvis (Dorking & Mole Valley AC) was fastest female in 1:20:29 just ahead of Stockport Harrier Jenny Knass. James Carroll filled the midpoint spot on 1:45:21and the field closed on 2:56:54.
Joe, Hannah, James, broadcaster Louise Minchin and the rest of the 800 plus finishers collected a pack of six - very tasty - Welsh Cakes, a variation on the traditional loaf of Bara Brith. No complaints about that though! Good weather after concerns about on-course flooding meant lots of PBs were recorded on the day.
Thanks to Bryan Dale for photograph of Hannah Jarvis. Check out Bryan's full set of Wrexham Half photos at the Race Photos website.
Bryan has also asked us to correct our report of the Alsager 5 earlier in the month. Bryan notes that the Alsager 5 did not replace the Cheadle Spring 6; rather the race started in 1985 as the Butters 5 (Butters are estate agents in Alsager and sponsored the race). Then in 1990 Ken Rushton took over as the race organiser and it became known as the Alsager 5.
