The Marine Corps Marathon, around Washington DC, started in 1975 when Colonel James L. Fowler decided to create a marathon that promoted goodwill between the military and post-Vietnam community, help raise money for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, and bring the community together to show the support for the US Marine Corps. The route of the MCM is amazing taking in many of  Washington’s major monuments.
