With organisers of the Decathlon Conventry Half Marathon announcing a substantial increase in entries this year, it looks likely registration for the event will close prior to the original deadline of 5 February. The event, scheduled for Sunday 28 February, has witnessed a sizable upturn in popularity in the previous two years with over 3,500 runners - almost double that of 2014 – competing in 2015.
The half marathon has been designed to takes in Coventry city centre, the beautiful Warwickshire countryside, and a great downhill stretch for the final stages of the run. After feedback from the field, the start point at the city centre has been extended to allow runners to get into a good rhythm and really into their stride
2015 saw Tom Doe take top place in a tight finish. The Lincoln Wellington AC ace finished in a time of 1:10:20, with Hermitage Harriers’ Matt Adcock a close second in 1:10:37, and Dale Annable third in 1:10:41.
The women’s field was similarly competitive with Emma Styles of Hinckley RC securing first in 1:23:30, closely followed by Amanda Deavy (1:23:44) and Myshola Mirkham.
With less than 500 places remaining, prospective runners are being encouraged to register before deadline day. Entry is priced at £28 (or £26 for affiliated entry). More information is available here.
